I tried to reach a couple of congos out there and only got robotic sounding answering machines. I called a couple of jw's I used to work with when the convention rolled into the Cow Palace. One responded with a snotty tone that brothers should not discuss such things. Apparently the lid is on pretty tight.....

I'm perfect you're doomed: Tales from a Jehovah's witness upbringing
by superman inme and my wife just got this great book from the library entitled 'i'm perfect you're doomed:tales from a jehovah's witness upbringing' writtin by kyria abrahams (an ex-jw).
i'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned or read it (it's still fairly new), but it is a great book.
for anyone who was raised in the 'troof' or group up in it you will find it very interesting.

I am in a mixed marriage. I am male and my wife is female. We have struggled to see eye to eye on several things, but for the most part have reached the blissful condition known as compromise.
Sorry, I just had to.....
From my POV the mixed couples I have known face more outside pressures than internal ones.

My Story
by ~Jen~ ini was raised a jw by very strict parents who, in my early teen years were physically and then later emotionally abusive all the while with my dad being and elder (and he still is).
i didn't want to be a jw then but my life was all about making my parents happy which started with me being baptized at 13. my parents constantly drilled into my head that most things were "bad" and i was "bad" i constantly did whatever i could to avoid being bad.
i had no life but then met a nice jw boy when i was 17. against my better judgement, i stayed with him and married him when i was 20. i didn't have a lot in common with him but he was really nice and was safe - he was a witness and even though i wanted to be in the world so bad i chose to be with him because he would keep me grounded, in the truth and away from where i really wanted to be because it was the right thing to do.. we were married for 7 years and have 3 sons.. for the past few years i've known that i did not want to be a jw even more and was sick of being fake.

On Looking For Work In This Economy
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inwow, i have had my degree for just over a year now.
i have been working closely with a career counselor for the past 6 months and have submitted lots of applications and resumes to dozens and dozens of companies for a long list of potential positions i would like to have.
i worked hard as an almost 50 fading jw to get my college education and since i can no longer climb poles in windy-sub-zero-weather to fix people's cable i locked myself into network administration.

"You mean they actually have real people manning the phones?"
Yes, and apparently they don't pay them very much either...

"Where did you go to school? What kind of degree do you have? Do you think you're the victim of ageism?"
I went to Kaplan University and got my Associates degree in about a year. I have only been to one interview and my age is left OFF my resume. Maybe I should color my facial hair?????

Wow, I have had my degree for just over a year now. I have had ONE interview in all this time. I drove a hundred miles to Bakersfield only to run into 62 other people also vying for two open positions.
Now it looks like I am finally going to be accepted. For a totally non-field related position with the IRS. NOw instead of working on the cutting edge of computer network technology I will be fielding complaint calls from angry people who wanna kill the first person they talk to about their tax bill. What did I ever do to deserve this???? LOL
Is the economy so bad that all a highly skilled and well trained person like me can get for work is part time scud work?

Why is the act of stopping meeting attendance so significant?
by dozy inone aspect of the leaving jw process has long puzzled me why can a fading jw become mentally disinterested , miss loads of meetings , become irregular in the ministry , perhaps even become involved in minor worldly conduct without too much concern from relatives or the elders over a period of years , even decades.
yet as soon as they make it become known that they are not going to the meetings anymore, all hell breaks loose.
elders dust down their od books and come calling on shepherding visits , perhaps for the first time for many years.

Good question. I wish I had something profound to say in response. What I believe is at work is eyes opening completely to what they have been closing their eyes to. It has been a long time coming and maybe if we ignore it things will not be so grave. Then poof, you say it and their nightmare is suddenly real and in their face....
